How to Download Apps on Huawei Phones Without Google Play Store

As most of you know by now, Huawei was banned by the United States quite some time ago. The company cannot include Google services on its smartphone, which basically means that they also come without the Google Play Store. Huawei pre-installs its own HMS services, but you get a different experience. In this article, we are going to show you how to download apps on Huawei phones that come without the Play Store.

Before you start, note that there are two ways to get apps. First, you can access “AppGallery”, Huawei’s own app store, and a replacement for the Google Play Store. If you can’t find the app you’re looking for, there’s another way to get it. You can access the “Petal Search” app, which is also Huawei’s app. There, just type in the app you are looking for and Petal Search will locate it on one of the Android app repositories. That being said, read on to see how to do all of this.

How to Download Apps to Huawei Phones via AppGallery

The very first thing you will need to do is launch the ‘AppGallery’ application. Once you’ve done that, you’ll notice a search bar at the very top. You can either search for the app you are interested in or browse the available apps through the options at the bottom. We will search for the application in this case.

Just tap on the search bar and a keyboard will appear. Type the name of the application you are interested in.

This time I opted for “Send Anywhere” which is a great app for transferring files to and from your Huawei phone. Huawei smartphones without Google Play Services do not support Nearby Share, and this is a great alternative. As you can see, the application was found in the AppGallery and you can press the “Install” button next to it.

Once the application is installed, the “Install” button will be replaced by the “Open” button. That’s basically it.

How to Download Apps on Huawei Phones via Petal Search

If an application is not available in the AppGallery, there is always Petal Search. Locate the app on your phone and launch it. At the very top, you will see the search bar, while at the bottom, some apps are suggested to you. Let’s find an app, shall we?

Just tap the search bar at the top and the keyboard will appear. Type the app name.

I opted for ‘Slack’, as I know it is not available in the AppGallery. Note that Petal Search can also find apps available in the AppGallery, more on that later. Slack, as you can see, was found in the ‘APK Pure’ repository. You will see the “Install” button next to “Slack”, tap on it.

How to Install Huawei Petal Search 3 Apps

You will be redirected to the APK Pure website, although Petal Search will automatically start installing the app if you pressed “Install”. All you have to do at this point is press the “Download” button.

Once the application is downloaded, you can install it manually, as soon as you have enabled certain permissions. APK Pure is a verified app repository, but always be careful when downloading apps.

You don’t have to use both AppGallery and Petal Search

We have shown you how to search for apps through these two apps. The thing is, you don’t have to. You can pick one and be done with it. Why? Well, if you search for an app through AppGallery and it is not available, it will suggest apps from Petal Search. If you search for an app through Petal Search, it will show you which apps are available through AppGallery and which are not. So you can just rely on one of them and you will be good to go.
