How to Download Disney+ Shows and Movies for Offline Viewing

Disney+ has quietly become one of the biggest streaming services out there. Although, that shouldn’t come as a surprise, considering they own some of the biggest franchises in box office history. This includes Marvel and Star Wars, not to mention Pixar, National Geographic and of course Disney itself are all available on this platform.

Which makes it a great service for downloading certain titles to watch while you’re traveling or won’t have access to a stable internet connection. Luckily, Disney will allow you to download titles to play them offline. And here’s how you can do it.

How to Download Disney+ Movies and TV Shows

Downloading movies and TV shows from Disney+ is pretty easy, actually. Open the Disney+ app on your phone or tablet.

Now navigate to the movie or show you want to download.

Under the “Play” button, you’ll see a number of options, including “Download.” Just tap on it to start downloading. The download will take a few seconds and should be complete in a few minutes, depending on your WiFi speed.

Now, for a TV show, you won’t see the download option under the play button. Instead, it will be on the right of each episode. As you will have to download every episode, and you cannot download an entire season with just one click – yet.

Then, if you tap the third icon at the bottom of the screen, which looks like an arrow sticking into the ground, you can see your downloads. As well as the progress of your current downloads.

And that’s all. This is how you can download movies and TV shows on the Disney+ app. This can be really useful if you’re preparing to travel, like jumping on a plane that will have spotty WiFi.

Adjust your download settings

You can also adjust your download settings in the Disney+ app.

Just go to the Account tab on the right.

Then press App settings.

Then you will see a downloads section.

Here you will be able to choose if you want it to be downloaded via WiFi only. As well as the quality of your downloads. By default, it will use Standard, which won’t be high quality, but it will use less storage. You can also choose Medium or High. Of course, High is going to use a lot more storage. Disney+ will show you how many hours you can download based on your available storage, for each option.

If you have a phone with a micro SD card, you can also change the download location, otherwise this section will be greyed out. There is also a button to remove all downloads and free up space.

Finally, you can see your storage here, much like the Netflix app. So you can see how much you’ve used, how much the Disney+ app is using, and then how much is free. So you can use your storage space wisely.

Do downloads expire?

Technically, no. You just need to make sure your device connects to the internet at least once every 30 days, and you can keep those downloads on your phone or tablet for as long as you want.

On how many devices can I download?

You can download movies and TV shows on up to 10 devices. That’s pretty respectable for Disney+, and on par with the competition too.

Is there a limit to the amount of content I can upload?

Currently, there is no limit to the number of movies and TV shows you download to your devices. Remember that there is a limit to the number of devices you can download to. This may change in the future as other services have limitations.
