Minnesota Opens Application Period for Child Care Economic Development Grants – Grand Forks Herald
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) announced that it has launched the latest round ofEconomic Development Grants for Child Care
This authorizes $4.85 million over two fiscal years for grants to community partners to increase the quality of child care providers to support economic development throughout Minnesota. A total of $2.425 million will be available in this second round of funding; $2.425 million has already been awarded to 14 projects.
DEED says it seeks proposals from local governments or nonprofits with experience operating, funding, advocating for, or advancing the delivery of child care services. Qualifying parties can request up to $300,000 in public funds for this program.
Individual child care providers, both center-based and family-based, seeking funding to establish new operations or expand existing operations are encouraged to partner, as part of their funding application, with organizations local or regional authorities with experience in planning or financing child care centres.
Priority will be given to communities that have a documented shortage of child care providers in their proposed project area. The definition of documented shortages may include disparities in access to affordable, quality child care among targeted groups, including but not limited to rural communities, low-income communities, black, aboriginal and people of color, people with disabilities, veterans and women.
All entries must be received no later than 4:00 p.m. CT on August 30.
Proposals should be submitted by email to [email protected] in a single PDF file. Winners will be notified in October.
DEED will host an informational webinar at two times – 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. – on Tuesday, July 26, for those interested in learning more.
