How to Complete a March Madness Bracket

  1. Your group will consist of 64 teams – after the first four playoff games have been completed – divided equally between the West, Midwest, East and South regions.
  2. The first round will be determined by the NCAA Selection Committee on a ranking system: A seeded 1 (considered the best team in their region), will play a seeded 16 (considered the worst), a seed 2-seeded will play a 15-seeded, and so on. Pick the team that should win the first round and advance them to the second by writing their name on the next match line.
  3. From there, repeat the process until you’ve predicted the entire tournament through Rounds 1 and 2, Sweet 16, Elite Eight, Final Four, and NCAA Championship Game.
  4. Predict the score of the championship game as the final potential tiebreaker with anyone likely to have the same score as you at the end of the tournament.

How does a March Madness support work?

The most common scoring method has one point for each correct prediction in the first round; two points for each prediction in the second round; four points for the Sweet 16; eight points for the Elite Eight; 16 points for the Final Four; and 32 points for picking the NCAA champion.

This scoring method places more importance on correct predictions later in the tournament. For example, simply predicting the correct NCAA Tournament champion is worth as many points to your group (32) as a perfect first round. Keep this in mind when making your choices.

The first four games are generally not used in point scoring, which begins in the first round. An incorrect prediction in any of the first four playoff games will not result in penalties or lost points.
