US Soccer announces application window for A-Senior and B coaching courses to open on September 16

CHICAGO (September 13, 2021) – US Soccer has announced that the next application window for the A-Senior and B licensed coach education courses will open on September 16 at 12:00 p.m. and run through October 3. Course start dates, dates and locations of meetings will be available on September 16th.

As training classes and in-person training continue, additional information will be provided regarding in-person safety protocols and requirements. As always, US Soccer’s top priority is the health and safety of its players, coaches and staff. The Federation is committed to following the health practices described by the Centers for Disease Control and the Return to the game of American football protocols.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a new reality in the way US Soccer approaches education. While the Federation has made changes to incorporate online and blended learning opportunities over the past few years, current circumstances have offered the opportunity to reimagine how coach education might work in the future.

In-person interaction, an important standard of education, will now be supported by more remote interaction during developmental periods between in-person meetings. An increase in virtual education allows for better retention of course material, additional time to incorporate and test concepts in candidates’ own environments, more intentional fieldwork in in-person meetings, and fewer in-person days required .

“While we know that in-person education is vital to the development process, we are pleased with how the courses have progressed over the past few months and know that we can incorporate some of the best practices as we move forward. », Declared Didier Chambaron, Director of Coaching Education. “Education will be different in the future, and we think it’s for the best. As education evolves, we must continue to evolve ”,

The A-Senior course will have three face-to-face meetings over a 10 month period, while the B courses will run over a six month period with two face-to-face meetings. In-person meetings will be reduced to three nights and class sizes will also be smaller than in previous years as per safety recommendations.

In addition to face-to-face meetings, virtual interaction and learning will take place each week. Students will participate in large group, small group and individual webinars.

“We believe these changes provide our students with greater flexibility in the short term, with our primary focus being the safety and well-being of our educators, students and staff,” Chambaron said. “We are reducing class sizes and the number of nights away from families, clubs and players while incorporating virtual learning for a better class experience and ultimately better learning. “

Female coaches accepted for the A-Senior and B license courses may have 50 percent of the tuition covered by theJill Ellis Scholarship Fund, created to increase the number of elite female coaches in the United States. Applicants will also have the opportunity to participate in the SheChampions Coach Mentorship Program, currently in the middle of its first year, provides future coaches with experienced mentors to guide them on their educational journey.
