Xbox consoles will change the way free video games are listed

Xbox engineering manager Eden Marie recently revealed on Twitter that the way Xbox consoles distribute titles currently in an Xbox Free Play Day promotion will be changing.

In addition to appearing on the Xbox Live Gold screen, where they are currently displayed, Free Play Day games will also appear in a user’s library under the Games With Gold category.

“Oh hey, there are new Free Play Days games coming to Xbox this weekend!” Married wrote. “Reminds me that in the Alpha and Alpha Skip Ahead rings, these games now appear in the Games with Gold section of your full library that you can install during their free period.”

As Marie mentions, this change is currently only active for Xbox Insiders in the Alpha ring and Alpha Skip Ahead. This means that this change is currently being tested and should be rolling out to the general public within a few months once the team is sure everything is working well.

Free Play Days are special promotions that usually run every weekend of the year. During this period, select games are unlocked for free to all Xbox Live Gold subscribers with an active subscription. Upcoming weekend free-to-play titles include The Elder Scrolls Online, Destiny 2 expansions, and Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
