Xbox Exclusive ‘CrossfireX’ Now Available for Pre-Order and Pre-Download
What exactly is CrossfireX? The free-to-play shooter is not particularly well-known in the West, but in Korea and surrounding regions, CrossfireX is among the most popular titles. CrossfireX is a high-stakes tactical shooter at heart, and Microsoft has teamed up with Smilegate and Remedy to bring the game west, an Xbox exclusive, with a story campaign for the first time.
The game has been somewhat shrouded in mystery since its initial announcement, but we finally have a launch date, as well as a pre-order and pre-download window thanks to an announcement this morning.
Released on February 10, 2022, CrossfireX will feature two “Operations” story-driven campaigns built by Remedy, by Max Payne and Alan Wake. The story revolves around two rival private military companies, Global Risk and Blacklist, and their struggles for supremacy in an increasingly dangerous world. Operations can be purchased separately or combined for $25 into an “ultimate package”, which also provides boosters and cosmetics for the free multiplayer component.
The pre-download is supposed to go live at 4:00 PM PT on January 31 for Xbox, but access may vary by region. After some confusion over its inclusion in Xbox Game Pass, it looks like a story pack is indeed planned for XGP, for consoles only. The other will remain a premium purchase.
With Battlefield 2042 on the count and Halo Infinite in desperate need of new content, CrossfireX can be a fun alternative waiting between new content drops for other games. But who knows? Maybe it will end up becoming one of this year’s dormant hits. For my part, I find myself suitably intrigued.
