Steam Cloud 2022: how to download your saved games

[ad_1]

Steam has the ability to sync files and save them to its servers. They’re automatically downloaded to Steam when you install a game, but that’s not the only way to get them successfully.

You can also download them directly from Valve’s website in your browser.

Enable Steam Cloud Sync

Steam should automatically download your old games after installing them, but if it doesn’t, you need to make sure that Steam Cloud is enabled for that game in Steam, according to GamePur.

To do this, you must first locate the game in your Steam library. Right-click on it and choose “Properties”. Next, click on the “General” tab and make sure the “Keep game saves in Steam game cloud” option is checked.

If the option is not enabled, Steam will not automatically download your cloud saves or upload new ones.

If you don’t see a Steam Cloud option for a game, that means the game doesn’t support Steam Cloud. However, it is important to note that not all games on Steam support Steam Cloud, as it depends on each game developer.

Download files in web browser

Valve also lets you upload your saved files to Steam Cloud through a web browser. You can download only your save files without having to re-download the entire game.

To find your saved files, go to Valve’s View Steam Cloud page in your browser and sign in with your Steam account. A list of games will be visible in the Steam Cloud storage.

Find the game in the list and click “Show Files” to see all of a game’s files. Each game has a page showing all of the files it stores in the Steam Cloud, along with any data that has been modified.

To be able to download a file, click on “Download”. Download all game save files and you will have a copy of its saves. This is useful for cross-platform games that do not automatically sync save files between two platforms.

As with the example given by HowtoGeek, “Borderlands 2” is available for Mac and PC. It syncs its save files with Steam Cloud, but the Mac and PC versions sync save files separately.

You can download the Mac or PC versions from the Steam website, then manually import them into the correct folder to move “Borderlands 2” saves between platforms.

Without using the website, you’ll have to manually download “Borderlands 2” to one platform, extract saved games, and download the game to a second platform, according to PCGamer.

Share games via stream

To share games, you need to enable Steam Guard. Also, make sure that the device you want to access your library from is ready for the process.

Activate the Steam client and click on “Steam” in the upper right corner, then click on Settings. Once the Settings window opens, choose “Manage Steam Guard Account Security”.

Click the “Get Steam Guard Codes by Email” button. This will require you to log back into your Steam account. Enter the Steam Guard code you received in your email and you should be able to log in to your Steam account.

On March 18, Valve Steam Deck announced that it can now support Xbox Cloud Gaming.
